There are four endings in NieR RepliCant and NieR Gestalt ( NIER ), each progressively showing the true ending. To get a full view of the story, all endings must be seen. Endings A and B are attained by playing the game twice on one save, but endings C and D can only be obtained under certain prerequisites.

Before you enter the Shadowlord’s castle at the very end, make a separate save file. At the end of the game, you’re given a choice that determines whether you see Ending C or D. Ending D: Reload save from before Shadowlord’s castle, make the opposite choice, get Ending D. This deletes all of your save data (not optional like in Automata), so make sure to do C & D in the right order (the game makes this.

No you beat the game and it unlocks ending B. You will only get ending B on the second playthrough. Then when you go through a third time you will get an option to pick between ending C and D . You will want to pick the top option ( ending C) before you do D (it will give you a warning explaining why if you pick ending D .
You’re ready to get C and D now:-save right before entering ths Shadowlord’s castle.-exit, back up save to a memory unit or USB storage.-reload, beat the Shadowlord, then beat the true final boss-make a choice….. The choice you have to make here is blatantly obvious – you will not make the wrong one, even by mistake. Once you see ending C, reload and do ending D .
